The Coaching Quality Mark supports the delivery of government targets and agendas such as GCSE pass rates, Progress 8, Behaviour & Attendance, Mental Health & Wellbeing, Teacher Workload, Inclusion and SEN as well as National College programmes (eg NLE, SLE, NPQEL, NPQH, NPQSL, NPQLT, NPQLBC, NPQLTD etc)

This education Coaching Quality Mark award also complements “Teaching School” criteria, the Professional Standards for Teachers, Ofsted & Estyn recommendations, Investors in People, and other national awards. It also provides you with ongoing evidence relevant to your school’s optional Self Evaluation Form (SEF) and Ofsted inspection.

• • The Professional Standards for Teachers requires Post Threshold Teachers to “provide regular coaching and mentoring to less experienced teachers” and Excellent Teachers to “support and help their colleagues to improve their effectiveness and to address their development needs through highly effective coaching and mentoring.”
  • Ofsted recommend that “Schools should…extend their understanding of, and expertise in, coaching and mentoring”

Inspectors found that “…schools used the terms ‘coaching’ and ‘mentoring’ extensively but there was often no common understanding of what they meant [and] because they did not have a clear understanding of the different forms coaching and mentoring could take, they did not always use them to best effect.”
